Lacura Highlighting Trio's

I'm such a huge fan of Aldi and actually really enjoy shopping there, they have a lot of great products at remarkable prices, and I often find myself looking at the Lacura range that they have available there - I believe it's an Aldi's own-brand - and find myself evermore curious about what the makeup and skincare products are like and how they would perform, so when I went on a food shop I decided to add a few of their products to my trolly to finally put to the test.

In this post I'll be reviewing the Lacura Highlighting Trio's and giving you my honest opinion on what you are getting for your money, they aren't they cheapest highlighters I've found but are definitely super affordable at only £4.49. Plus I managed to grab both of mine on sale too, at only 99p each, such a bargain!

Although the packaging could be slightly better quality with it being quite thin plastic, it does what it needs to, it's stable and simple which personally I like and at the end of the day it is the product that I want to use and try, so as long as the packaging doesn't easily break then I'm happy with it!

There are two available shades, Golden Glow and Rosy Glow, I of course purchased both.

The shades in each highlighter trio are quite similar really besides either the more golden shade or more rosy shade, dependant on which you choose to buy. I'm pretty sure that the white shade is exactly the same in each trio, the brown shades in each are similar but the Golden Glow trio has a warmer toned, whereas the Rosy Glow has a cooler toned brown.

And of course, there is either a bronze shade or pink shade, which is the only shade that really set's the two trio's apart.

The powder does have tiny glitter particles in it, but nothing that you can feel on the skin and nothing that is too chunky, which is usually the problem I have with glitter being pressed into a powder, but you can't really see it once applied to the face anyway and I found that the power itself was still soft to the touch.

The swatches aren't great honestly and made me think that these would definitely be more of a subtle highlight oppose to the more 'disco ball' highlighters you can find, which isn't really a problem for me because sometimes it's nice to have a more subtle and natural glow, but I found swatching these on my arm pretty disappointing actually as it was almost non-existent.

Personally these remind me a little of the Ofra Highlighter Trio's that are available, definitely the shade selection more than anything, but not as pretty to look at and definitely a little cheaper looking too. I've not actually tried the Ofra highlighters myself to judge between them on quality, pigment etc, but I can imagine from images alone that these wouldn't work as dupes at all purely from the pigment, but that is of course my own opinion and others may not agree.

As the swatches suggested this is definitely more of a natural highlight, but I have to admit that I was again a little disappointed, I was expecting a more stable, natural highlight anyway but used alone this really didn't show up on the skin, and I even went over with a little more product a few times to try and increase the glow and it didn't really do much at all, which is a shame as I really do think the shades are pretty.

I did find however that if applied on top of a subtle liquid highlight that this does help to add a little more glow but still keeps it very soft and natural, which could work great for those who prefer to have a softer, subtler highlight anyway and actually it was quite pretty, although the more bronze shades don't work great as a highlighter on my skin tone but I expected that anyway being as pale as I am.

Overall I was actually pretty disappointed with these, I wasn't expecting the next best highlighter or anything, of course, but I think that I was definitely expecting more in terms of pigment and formula because you can find such great products and highlighters that have great pigment and colour pay-off at the drugstore for around the same price, so I would personally say save your money!

But with that being said, if you prefer a more subtle, softer glow, don't mind applying a little liquid highlight before hand and can get this on a good offer like I was able to for only 99p, then it's not the worst product that I've ever tried and you may just get on with it more than I did.

As I was generally disappointed with how these worked as highlighters, I wanted to see if I could get the product to work for me in a different way and decided that I wanted to try them as eyeshadows, as I was curious about how they would work and like I've said, I do like the shades that are in both trio's.

I decided to go in with a damp eyeshadow brush to see just how much pigment I could get and went all over the eyelid with the shade. I was actually pleasantly surprised, don't get me wrong, there was still a lack of pigment but I could actually see the shades properly and they truly are gorgeous but unfortunately just not great as highlighters in my opinion.

I found that when I used a damp brush and went on the lid that it gave the shades an almost foiled look, which was surprising but definitely not a bad thing and I also found that it brought the shimmer out in the colours a bit more too.

Even used as eyeshadows this really isn't my favourite and is honestly disappointing, there is such a lack of colour and pigment in the formula and although I think they are pretty shades and work quite well as shadows if used wet, I really do think you would be frustrated if you brought this, especially if you paid full price and were expecting a great highlighter.

Although I may try to use this again on the eyes, I really think these are not at all worth the retail price, and I'm honestly just glad that I managed to grab mine on sale. So overall I am pretty disappointed, but with so many products out there I know not everything is going to work and not everything is going to work out for me personally and that's okay!

Let me know in the comments or over on social media if you've tried any Lacura products, what your opinions are if you have and if there is anything you would recommend or any products that you would like for me to put to the test and review in future, I'd love to hear your recommendations!
